EVA Compatibility, Performance & System Requirements
EVA is designed for Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs. This page covers minimum and recommended system requirements, expected performance, supported file types, and known limitations — so you know exactly what to expect before you buy.
Operating system
- Supported: Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows 11 (64-bit)
- Not supported: macOS, Linux, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 32-bit, mobile operating systems
- EVA runs directly from the USB drive. No installation is required. No administrator permissions are needed to run the core application.
Minimum hardware requirements
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB or more |
| CPU | Modern 64-bit processor (Intel Core i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 or equivalent, 2018 or later) | Intel Core i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 7/9, recent generation |
| Free storage on PC | Minimal — EVA runs from the drive | No PC storage required for core operation |
| USB port | USB 3.0 or higher | USB 3.1 or USB-C with adapter |
| Display | 1280x720 or higher | 1920x1080 or higher |
Performance expectations
Local AI performance depends heavily on your hardware. Unlike cloud AI, which uses dedicated server-side compute, EVA uses your PC's CPU and RAM. Here is what to expect:
- On recommended hardware (16 GB RAM, modern i7/Ryzen 7): Conversational responses typically take a few seconds. Document analysis of shorter files is responsive. Longer documents take more time.
- On minimum hardware (8 GB RAM, older processor): Responses are slower — expect 15–60 seconds for complex queries or longer document analysis. The application remains functional; patience is required.
- Document size matters: Analyzing a 2-page checklist is much faster than analyzing a 200-page field manual. Break large documents into sections for best results.
Supported file types for the knowledge base
You can add the following file types to EVA's local document knowledge base — maps, field manuals, personal records, or anything else you want available offline:
- PDF (.pdf)
- Plain text (.txt)
- Microsoft Word documents (.docx)
- Additional formats — check the current documentation on your drive for the full supported list, as this may be updated.
USB drive specs
The EVA USB drive is a purpose-built device. Key physical specifications:
- Interface: USB 3.0
- Form factor: Compact, portable drive
- Physical enclosure: Rugged design for field use
- Note: Physical durability specifications (waterproofing, drop resistance) are based on the enclosure manufacturer's ratings. Refer to the documentation included with your drive for the specific rated specifications and test conditions.
Internet connection requirements
- Core operation: No internet connection required. EVA's chat and document features run entirely offline — including when the internet, Wi-Fi or cellular network is down.
- Model updates: When EVA model updates are released, downloading them requires a temporary internet connection. Day-to-day use does not.
- What EVA cannot do offline: Access current web information, recent news, or live data. For current-events queries, use an internet-connected AI tool.
Known limitations
- EVA runs on Windows only. Mac and Linux are not supported at this time.
- Response speed is limited by your PC hardware, not by EVA itself.
- The local language model has a knowledge cutoff date and does not reflect events after that date.
- Very large documents (100+ pages) may be slow to process. Chunking large files improves performance.
- EVA does not have access to the internet during normal operation.
- Accuracy of document retrieval depends on document formatting and clarity.
Troubleshooting basics
- EVA is running slowly: Check available RAM. Close other applications. Use shorter document segments.
- Drive not recognized: Try a different USB port. Ensure you're using USB 3.0 or higher.
- Application won't open: Confirm you're on Windows 10/11 64-bit. Run as administrator if prompted, though it should not be required.
